How satellites, computers AND people find icebergs

Most of the iceberg sightings published on this website have originated from space! The technology that can do this is satellite-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR).  The SAR systems that are used for iceberg detection here are located at an altitude of ~800 kilometers and orbit the earth 14 times each day.
